Ain’t Nothin’ Better Grady Miller

2021

Grady Miller’s latest release is a reflection of the time in which it was recorded. All recordings are a snapshot in time, but the art and music created during the global COVID pandemic will stand apart for it’s range of emotion. This album varies wildly in terms of genre, style, subject matter, and instrumentation and yet coalesces into the vibrant, unified sound of Grady Miller, joined once again on every track by the talented Jeff Shoop on percussion (and duct tape!) Not all songs were written during 2020, but the entire album was recorded between October 2020 and September 2021.

Union Street Grady Miller

2017

Union Street is the much-anticipated second album by Grady Miller. This release once again showcases their varied talents and styles, with every track (except A Whiter Shade of Pale) a new composition written by either Cathy Towns Grady, Michael Grady or both. Once again, their unique and varied writing style has created an album of tracks that complement each other, yet never feel samey.

They flow freely from the rootsy folk of Union Street and Old Habits Die Hard, to blues with Cold Shoulder , their  signature “ditty” Coffee and Beer and timely protest anthem People Gonna Rise Again.  They even throw in a couple of original fiddle tunes. This record is a great representation of the diversity of music that you hear at one of their live shows!

It’s True Grady Miller

2015

It’s True is the 2015 release by Americana and Blues group Grady Miller. The combination of tight harmonies and the intertwining of the fiddle and guitar are the basis for this eclectic selection of songs that rock from the beginning and make you want to call your mom to tell her you love her by the end. All songs were written by Michael Grady and/or Cathy Miller with the exception of The Glasgow Reel, which was written by Davey Arthur.

Here’s what Chuck Yarborough of The Cleveland Plain Dealer has to say: “All the lyrics are good, maybe even great, but none of it would work without those two voices –- well, three if you count Miller’s fiddle, which is capable of sighing and crying and laughing and loving all in the same tune. Individually, Grady and Miller are able to tap into souls — especially Miller with her sultry, sometimes smoky and always emotional alto. But when they pair their voices, the harmonies become almost surreal. Grade: A

Live at the Sweet Pea Cafe

Grady Miller (as The Steelheaders)

2012

The Steelheaders had been playing together for a few years when Cathy joined in 2011. This recording, made in early 2012 features primarily Michael’s original songs and a few covers. Recorded live at the Sweet Pea Cafe in Fairlawn, Ohio, this album is a snapshot of where Grady Miller began to flourish. It showcases their variety and versatility and Michael’s excellent songwriting.

Catalyst Cathy Towns Grady (as Cathy Miller)

2011

Back when Cathy was still a Miller (now you understand the band name, right?) she released this solo album titled after her original fiddle tune, Catalyst. This release features her father, guitarist Robert Towns on the tracks Beaumont Rag and Wayfaring Stranger, and Jim Gill on guitar for most other tracks. It includes the original version of Highway 100 as well as some of her older tunes Call to Me and Precipice.

Her a cappella rendition of The Water is Wide is spellbinding, as well as her take on the tune, Dunmore Lasses, and her original piece Catalyst, both of which are popular at their shows for her live looping technique.
